throw in some extra cash and get vmware workstations from vmware.com and run linux inside windows.its the same as running linux seperately the only catch is you dont have to partition drives and stuff.you do it but its virtual.its really good if you want to learn linux without using the environments.

watch /var/log/{debug,syslog,secure,messages} before/during/after the problem.
cd /var/log; tail -f messages syslog debug secure ..see man tail to see -f
