The official training is very much worth it. PSEB did sponsor some ISC2 review seminars in Karachi and Islamabad which was (almost) free to member companies.

If you are in Karachi, I probably have a lot of the material from then.

To find out who is messing with the arp, you need to do basic network trouble shooting. Start unplugging wires and when your problem stops you know who it is.

The person is probably using something like ettercap to sniff your network traffic.

Openoffice might be the problem. Remove the Java and make sure that the preloader is not used. The preloader stores OO in memory so that startup time is fast.

MAC address spoofing is possible on most OS. Of course this is a major problem from the point of view of cable operators (there was a recent thread on this).

I have installed Mandriva x86_64 2007.1 and now I find that many things do not work. Many of the 64 bit libraries are not complete and sometimes the only solution is to run a 32 bit application.
