were you able to isolate where theh sound came from? there are alof if pieces of hardware that could cause that problem, but only a few usualyl make noice

hard drives, cdroms and fans being the big ones

on redhat as root you can service lpd stop/start/restart this will stop/start the serviice this time, if you want to change the default on boot use chkconfig lpd on/off that will ensure that the service is turned off in all runlevels for all eternity, but will not actually stop the running instance,...

you can write some setup scripts, or do a network install - but i have never found it worth my time to do this, and i have over 100 computers I keep track of

should you still want to, netinstall is the way to go ive been told

In redhat 8.0 they moved to gcc 2.96 which uses the new coding standard, or more correctly - _enforces_ the alreayd existing C++ coding standrad, so if the code didn't follow the standard (which ALOT of code didn't) then it will not compile on 8.0, but will compile ju...

7.2 gave you timeout's on your hard drive? If that is true check your configuration (physical first) make sure ytou have master/slave setup properly. Also, try a different drive, I had a drive that started giving timeouts - it had to be replaced. Im not sure 7.2 would install and 7.3 wont though...

for details of how your modem is supported, if it is not supported on there ( no drivers are found) Im afraid your stuck unless you can get a driver from someone else - (but usually anything that does get written ends up there)
