I have tried adding the DNS servers from the file /etc/resolv.conf to the DNS server fields in Windows XP connection settings. After that the browser says something like looking up <hostname> and after a few seconds says that host could not be found.

Dear Farrukh Ahmed, I have run the commands you told but the windows machine is still unable to browse. I have also defined my Ubuntu box as the gateway on XP and restarted both PCs to make sure but still no solution. Does that have something to do with DNS? As I have already told you that I am new ...

What do I have to do at the windows xp machine? Is defining the Ubuntu machine as a gateway enough?

And can you explain to me what these commands do? So that the next time I have such a problem then I can solve it myself.

Linux, Windows and the desktop

I have read a lot of articles with a topic like "Is GNU/Linux ready for the desktop?". It is a nice thing to see that Desktop Linux is getting the attention of people from all over the world. However, there is a big mistake that I often see in such articles, which is, that the author almos...

Fedora has a graphical tool for dial-up connection. You can use that to make the process easy. Or you can also use KPPP or gnome-ppp. I have not used a PTCL Wireless connection but I guess that it is dial-up in nature. So you should have no trouble.

I, GNOME-PPP and trouble...

Assalam-o-Alaikum. I am having trouble with gnome-ppp. The details are as written below: I set up gnome-ppp according to my needs. Now when I try to connect to the internet using gnome-ppp, it stops in the end. When I look at the log, it is like this: /home/saad/.wvdial.conf<Warn>: Ignoring malforme...

Assalam-o-Alaikum Farhan Ansari, You can do it by mount command. For example: mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/c If you want the partitions to be automatically mounted on each boot, you will have to edit the file /etc/fstab. But before that you will have to keep some things in mind. For example: If C drive is o...
