RedHAT Updates

As RH will be phasing out its updates/ bug fixes for older distros and eventually the last one in the line RH 9 too , I was looking for a solution and bumped to this link

This is a paid service, this company ( PANTEK ) will monitor major lists / updates o packages for your systems and will send out rpms to update them , just as redhat errata system. This company charges 120$ / yr for this service and boasts to roll out the security / update patch within 5 days of announcement. Thats pretty cheap for all of us who dont want to give their RH servers / systems away!

Hope companies like these make RH change their policy about updates.

Here is another one for the same.

This service does come at a monetary price. Progeny is tagging this service at US$5 per machine per month or a flat rate of US$2,500 per month for unlimited machines.

Thats ridiculous , you will eventually want to upgrade the distro as a whole.

It would be silly to waste money on something like package maintenace.

Just save the config files and reinstall a new distro

Well Tehmasp, in some extent you are right but in some you are not, think about you are not using the OS/Software only on singel comptuer you will get an answer by yourself

There's a reason why NT 4 (released in 1996 AFAIK) is still supported by MS. There are orgs out there who are still on NT4. Upgrading to a new version is impossible for even a very small company (as little as 10 seats). Let's say you're a company who's deployed Oracle on Linux. You have 2 choices.

UnitedLinux
Redhat 7.3

When Redhat 7.3 went out of service, you had 2 choices

Upgrade to 8 and lose support from Oracle
Stay on 7.3 and receive updates from a 3rd party

Option 2 is the viable one for lots of orgs.

Fawad is right that we have to think what we need there are companies who run softwares in their I.T Department and it is not Possible to move from one Distro to another Distro

Well they are already looking for distributors for Pakistan. By the way one company (i forgot the name) has got rights.

Netaccess and not netlinx is the official distributor Of RedHat linux in pakistan.

Actually, Microsoft officially stopped supporting NT 4 this past year.
Its a crazy idea to use NT 4 in this day and age.

I don't know what you are trying to point out.... but i think there is a lot of difference between OpenSource and Micro$oft....If they stop supporting Windows NT 4.0 then what is the relation ship between Red Hat Linux and Windows NT 4.0
