dont run it from menu.

open a terminal

type in it

"gmplayer"

then read the error message and post here then we will be able to help you.

mementomori,
newbie's suggestion is good for a lot of unix programs. They usually dump out debugging info on STDERR which shows on the console.
For this particular situation, the reason might be that you don't have the proper codecs installed to run the video. You can get the win32 codecs package from the mplayer site and it's also available on freshrpms.net.

Salam,

I have successfully instaled mplayer latest version on Redhat 9 5 days back.

The RH8 version of mplayer is known to cause problems if used on RH9.Download and install these packages on ur RH9 box. They will work 100 %:

http://ftp.falsehope.com/home/rathann/m ... noarch.rpm

http://ftp.falsehope.com/home/rathann/m ... 1.i386.rpm

http://ftp.falsehope.com/home/rathann/m ... 1.i386.rpm

Also download and instal this package if you want to be able to run all windows movie / audio formats on linux including wmv, avi , mpg, vcd etc:

http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xi ... 1.i386.rpm

Note: Install all packages using the rpm -U or rpm -i command
