Dear chacha,

1st check the properties of the file from

# ls -al install

if it has a permission to executed by the user then you can run it by

# ./install or export PATH=$PATH:"."; install
# sh install

Hope it will help you out...

Best Regards.

to get the most out of mplayer, installl the tar gz format, but even before that...make sure you have all the codecs uncompressed in a codecs folder....usually /usr/llib/codecs/ or usr/local....then uncompress the mplayer into whichever directory you prefer...
cd into the mplayer ./configure --with-codecsdir=/codecs/directory/ --enable-gui
the gui just in case you wanna...get the codecs from the mplayer site...for quicktime windows n all...
then make and make install and you should be all set
I only run as fast as my angels can fly
