Bandwith controllling

Post by zmunawar »

I have an ISP type setup, in which we are providing services to some clients.
We have squid installed. Now what we want to attain is to control the user's bandwidth but in a manner that he get full bandwidth from squid cache but if he intends to go to internet for some object then the bandwidth rule will be applied, based on which he will be getting 64 K or whatever defined.

have anybody idea how to do it ?

How to mostly ISPs controls there bandwidth.

Ps Note : My users are on LAN type setup and i want to give them full speed for cache object , and i cant either place my bandwidth controller after squid , as squid NATs everthing and i doest get users IP address

you can turn off your natting and add reverse route in gateway of your squid machie and can manage bandwidth in that new machine.

AOA,

I think what you are asking is a bandwidth script and squid patched with some TOS HIT marking patch like ZPH.

go through the search option of this forum, you will find allot of posts about this topic, for bandwidth restriction you can download my bandwidth script.

and about the squid patch, www.google.com is best.

We've just been using Netequalizer. It's not free, but it's easy.

sure it will work for you. but you need to place an a bandwidth shape to control HTTP traffic in front of squid ( ie client -----> squid ----> shaper---> internet) after applying tporxy your clients will be visible for bw shaper.
