its admired if u search the forum b4 posting the q? as this kind of q? had already been answered previously..any how no problem for me!

it had been problem with many guys that they cant use net on cable net .

fisst of all u need to see wether ur lan card is detected
use lspci or scanpci to see ur ethernet card
and have loaded proper module (driver for it.) use command lsmod to see which modules r loaded
suppose u got 3com pci 3c905 100 tx cyclone lan card..i uses 3c59x module

then u ned to config (assign ip address to ur lan card)
use command ifconfig eth0 up defaultg-ateway-ip
or use netconfig will open a graphical window
write tehre tur ip..subnetmask..default gateway......keep in mind that ur cable net wala may be usign dhcp .
if he is using cdhcp then just check the dhcp option in the netconfig

as a precautionary step....u may need to restart the network service using command service network restart
then check wether the ip u assigned to ur lan card is ok or not by command ifconfig

now for browsing pls go to advance settings of ur browser and write the ip :port of ur proxy server and start browsing...

for the GUI lover, RHL 7.3 and onwards comes with a nity GUI tool. in an xterm window type

and that will open up a gui interface for easy management of network cards and modems. quite helpful for the newbie.
