i wasn't happy with the whiny article at the end, the one that listed linux pakistan's url. the author complained that he couldn't find anyone who sold commercial software. i don't know where he searched for it. both my copies of xp on my home machines are legal, and i know the company that sold them to me had them shipped up from karachi, and that they sold other (non-microsoft) apps.

Spider Magazine is lame; doesn't have any useful information in it.

You've gotta understand that rags like Spider aren't really targeted towards the technically savvy people. By doing that, they'd really limit their readership. So they have to dumb it down for the average person to understand it (and maybe feel special about doing so!).

Not a completly computer oriented mag. and also not available in Pakistan as far as i know, but MIT's Tech Review is an excellent magazine,
Also, I hope you all know about ocw.mit.edu , cool stuff.

In terms of Spider, you should be satisfied that it does an excellent job , stuff like that shouldn't be complained about. Most mags cant be too sophisticated , otherwise no one will buy the mag.
The sophisticated ones , those are what people call journals,

It is available at Guru Mandir with the Hawkers near/opposite Sabil Wali Masjid, or ask your news paper hawker. Check out few issues then subscribe.

You would be better off reading the on-line version [ more content ] its main focus is not end users rather what we call as trade. There office is on Club Road, Lotia Building near Metropole Hotel, you can look out for the office of monthly Raabta, it is same.
