Is it necessary to change the existing logo?

Postby shaliawan » Tue Mar 25, 2003 3:52 pm

Assalamolaiqum,

Yes because the existing Logo is not representing Pakistan as much as the new Logo represent like the new Logo has also Urdu Words so people in Pakistan you know cannot read english much better and the new logo also have the background of The Tomb Of Quaid-e-Azam.

New LOGO

Postby mahin » Wed Mar 26, 2003 2:50 pm

At present we have only four options to choose from:

1. Existing design by Umer
2. Design by Shujaat
3. Design by Digitalsurgeon
4. Any new or modified design

I like the design by digitalsurgeon but IMHO its use is not legally allowed till we have permission in writing. Who is going to secure that for us?

Plese refer to the rules concerning use of Pakistani Flag:

Rule 26. The Flag, except with the permission in writing of and in accordance with the conditions, if any, imposed by the Federal Government, shall not be used in any trade-mark or design or the title of any patent or for the purpose of any trade, business calling or profession or for any other purpose whatsoever.

Rule 35. The Flag shall not be used, except in accordance with the above rules and as modified from time to time.

Mazar-e-Quaid is not used as landmark symbol for Karachi rather it is OLD KMC head office building just like Bab-e-Khyber for Peshawar and Minar-e-Pakistan for Lahore, Hilal-e-Istaqlal for Sargodha etc. Mazar-e-Quaid is a national landmark symbol.

Unless some one else volunteer's and post some thing soon we should now make a choice and move ahead.

My vote is for design by Shujaat.

Guys,
The Quaid was the founder of Pakistan, not Karachi. The mazar is a national monument not for Karachi, just like the statue of Liberty is a symbol for the US, not New York City.

I am not sure if the laws Tariq sahib pointed out will stop us from using the coresis logo or not, but we do need concrete permission from coresis to use it.

In any case, we now have 3 logos we can choose from. I do like the current logo, however there were some technical, not design, flaws with it that caused us to shoot for another logo. The requirements are as follows

1. Logo should represent LinuxPakistan's association with Pakistan.
2. We (i.e. LinuxPakistan) should be free to use the logo in any way we please without being hindered by copyrights etc.
3. The logo should be scalable; both to different resolutions, sizes and different mediums. We want the logo to be used both on electronic as well as print media.

That said, I'll post a poll on the site ASAP so that we can move forward with one of the logos.

i think "MINARE_PAKISTAN" can represent the pakistan more beautifully than tomb of quaid.
and another suugesstion from me is this

if we replace the black colour of penguin with green and make a star on chest (inside white area of penguin), then it can represent pakistan without any building.

now please dont say this that "make it yourself lahories"
i know karachi people are doing best for linux than people of any city.
and we lahories are even not able to arrange a single successful meeting.

P ( PAKISTAN ) L ( LINUX ) U ( USERS ) C ( COMMUNITY )

Postby linuxgeek » Sat Mar 29, 2003 12:24 am

Guys cummon ... this is a linux channel .. and it belongs to the whole community which inturn is from Pakistan not Karachi - Lahore .. .. or any other one place :( .. why are you getting in a debate like this? and yeah if anyone wants to start this war .. go find some other place .. this is a open channel and it *IS* open for every one ... why fight on a logo ... its just a land mark .. representing Pakistan ... isnt it ...? and yeah does a logo matter .. i mean putting a building on the logo that belongs to one specific place wont mean that the sharing of the knowledge is limited to that place only :(

cummon grow up .......

cheers

Linux Pakistan Logo

Postby shaliawan » Thu Apr 03, 2003 1:32 am

Assalamolaiqum,

Thanks Mr Ahmad Mushtaq so for vector graphics tool to build a scalable logo, we can use GIMP as it is a Good Software but little bit hard to use ,, so the last Logo which you have made is not representing Pakistan as the 1st one was representing.

So the logo that i have made is scalable.
