Post by seyed_kazmi@hotmail.com »

AoA to All

I am trying to configure D-link DFE-530TX PCI Card v4.16
but all in vain :(
i tried to install driver according to txt. file in the driver CD and doing these steps but results are this.

1)create a temp dir
# mkdir /temp
2) change to temp
# cd /temp
3) Copy driver into the temp dir

4) untar the file
# tar xzvf dlkfet-4.16.tar.gz
# cd dlkfet-4.16
and then writer says that compile the driver source files
and i don,t know that how to compile a file
if it is through
"make " command then i had tried it as

after above step
#make
or
#make dlkfet-4.16
but i don,t know either it is correct or not but this method is not genrate the" .o" file to copy into a kernel location so plz guide me

Dear Amir

All configuration is this

1)create a temp dir
# mkdir /temp
2) change to temp
# cd /temp
3) Copy driver into the temp dir

4) untar the file

# tar xzvf dlkfet-4.16.tar.gz

# cd dlkfet-4.16
then
#./configure
bash: ./configure: No such file or directory

another problem is that when i install linux first in GUI Mode then in start only one kernel that is

but at that time after installing on P4
boot loader is Grub
2.4.20-8smp
&
2.4.20-8:x
means two kernel
like two different operating systems as we use in Windows dual boot system
is this a problem if yes then how i can get rid off with that prob.
plz ans. me soon

I shall be very thankfull to u

try #make install
where u wrote just make
2ndly at startup you find 2 kernel options.
Ist is normal boot option with single processor machine
2nd "SMP" option is for two processor machine. SMP mean symetric muti processing. You select first option if you have a pc with one processor.
If you still get an error in compliling D-Link driver then do attach your driver file to me at "amerjanjua@yahoo.com" and then i will first compile it on my machine then let you know that probelm is lying where.

Thanks

Just type this after cd into driver directory and make sure you have Installed Kernel Source !!

# make -f Makefile

Dear Furrkh

i installed the kernel source so i make the ".o" file by using your command
and then
#make instal
and changing adoptor by
alias eth0 rhinefet
in /etc/modules.conf

but after shutdown the system and restart the system
when i run the
# insmod rhinefet
it will give error
Using /lib/modlues/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/rhinefet.o: init_modlue: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

plz ans me as soon as possible
thanx in Advancel

Dear seyed_kazmi@hotmail.com,
Salam,

try to find the rhinefet.o and copy it into your /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/

# cp rhinefet.o /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/

Best Regards.
