South Asia Quake Help - Asterisk Server needed

Postby mahin » Fri Oct 14, 2005 9:53 am

Hello,

As part of the South Asia Quake Help Blog
(http://quakehelp.blogspot.com) & Wiki efforts, we are trying to setup
a SMS2Web/Web2SMS system in Pakistan/India (affected areas). As has
been in other recent disasters, SMS seems to be the only available
communication means in the affected areas.

This system if setup could be used by relief workers, affected people
and other volunteers to exchange important information about their
relief needs, situation reports etc. Major Relief Agencies have shown
interest in such a system. We have been trying for the last 72 hours
or so with little success.

We are looking Asterisk (Open Source IP PBX) Linux Servers, some
Asterisk Hardware and a few phone lines in Pakistan or India. More
detailed information on what's needed is available here:
http://quakehelp.blogspot.com/2005/10/u ... rvers.html

As an Asterisk/Lunx tech user in Pakistan, we thought you might be able to
help us with this relief effort. We found your contact information
here: http://lists.chambana.net/mailman/archi ... 00488.html

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks in advance,
Bala Pitchandi & Angelo Embuldeniya

Dear mahin,
Salam,

I Just got follow up from Wasim !!

follow up :

- ufone has offered their services in this regard and will provide all
assistance
- mobilink has already done the same
- we are waiting for some word from paktel and telenor, hopefully today

mobilink/ufone CEO/CTO/CFO are aware of this effort now and are fully
supportive, so good job folks ...

we need to start work on the web interface, application and other
aspects,
so that the solution can be demo'd and tested inhouse with the mobile
operators prior to launching to the relief agencies

also need support from PTA to get this cleared regulatory

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for being forthcoming with the offers of help.

Our Team has been trying to establish this system for the last 80 some
hours. First off, to make things clear on what exactly we want to do,
we have put up a wiki page on our wiki site, where we are documenting
our requirements, the proposed solution, technical requirements
etc. Here's the link to the wiki page:

http://quakehelp.asiaquake.org/qh/index ... ef_Hotline

We are calling this project "Relief Hotline" in the lack of a better term.

Please bookmark this page and add/edit/comment on these requirements.
I am sure you are all familiar with working with wiki pages. If not,
please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Introduction_2.

We want to get this project started as soon as possible.
Looking forward to seeing this system in place soon.

Best Regards
