Its a matter of choice, but if you are asking for a Enterprise solution, then go for the brand.
because at the end you have to face the auditors in your company, they will never allow you for non-branded product.

apache 1.3? i've upgraded to 2.2. even the livejournal developers think that 2.2 is a worthy step up (they avoided 2.0).

2.2.3 is the first "stable" release, as the web page says.

freebsd doesn't ship with apache at all. it doesn't have the apache precompiled packages on the install cds (for 6.1). it has apache 1.3, 2.0, and 2.2 in ports -- you're free to use whichever one you want to.

if you mean the freebsd.org's web site, then yes, they are still running 1.3. there's little reason to upgrade to 2.2 if you already have a stable 1.3 environment, but there's no reason to recommend 1.3 over 2.2 to most new users.

Use any distors in which you're best. Approx. all distros are equal with minimum variation in stability...
