Rainbow Centre Frawd

Postby Zaheer » Sun Oct 19, 2003 11:01 pm

Salamz,
I went to Rainbow Centre Saddar Karachi and happily bought the Redhat 9 CD(3 CD's).When I went to home and tried to install it,I got a shock as before the CD's were Corrupt and of no use like before,So in no time I went to Rainbow.I changed the CD's then came back but that time the CD's were corrupt.I changed the CD's for 3 times and then the shopkeeper refused to give me my money back so what should I do with these CD's.Now I have 6 CD's of Linux but all six are corrupted.

Your cd does not have a linuxpakistan label.
Only purchase cd's which have the linuxpakistan logo/ small certificate number.

Goto karachi computers or Mehak Cd corner @ rainbow centre
Both of them have linux cd's that have a linuxpakistan label.

Even in case u buy the cd's from KC or mehak or any other shop, make sure that they do have the linuxpakistan logo and the certificate number.
MOst of them (The ones with linuxpakistan logo and cert number) do work, provided a bad copy has not been generated by the vendor.

In case, they do have the logo and cert number, and even then they donot work, then make sure the problem is not at your end for e.g your cdrom is working properly.Once confirmed, return them to the cd vendor, get them checked and if found corrupt, ask for a replacement copy. You may use LinuxPakistan.net 's reference.

Assalamualaikum,

I myself checked in a shop at Rainbow Center, that somebody copied our tux & mazar logo & released their own CDs :-(.

Anyway, Pls make sure that tux & mazar logo looks same like our original logo & try to get the CDs from Karachi Computers, who released it from LinuxPakistan.net. For more information pls do contact cd@linux.net.pk.

This is bad news.
We need to be careful.

Right.

Also when u start installing redhat linux, do run the cd media check first as well.

Problem with RH 9 - some CD's not working.

Postby mahin » Thu Oct 23, 2003 4:00 pm

It appears that poor quality control during manufacturing is the main reason why some CD produced with same stamper are working while others are not.

To help every one understand, please read the entire thing or at least read the relevent portion. Once you have read this then we have to find a way to improve quality control by factory manufacturing CD's.

Start reading from here: [ long but will explain every thing ]
http://www.disctronics.co.uk/technology ... frames.htm

Some CD's are working and some are not [ As in case of Red Hat 9 ]

Problem is caused during moulding of blanks with stamper not being properly aligned during entire moulding process, those moulded properly are working other give error due to pits not being formed properly through stamper at this stage:

Relevent portion - cause of problem.
http://www.disctronics.co.uk/technology ... _mould.htm

In brief it is sloppy quality control by Factory producing these CD.

Still working on this will keep you all informed.
