Hello guyz,

As per our discussion here in this thread:

http://www.linuxpakistan.net/forum2x/vi ... =4722#4722

As per our agreement with fawad, the site adminn of this website, we, the mods will be deleting rogue posts and those that are totally unneccessary. For example posts like : "LOL", "I agree" , "Change your nick", "I hope he follows your advice mr.X" and other such unneeded replies that only waste our precious bandwith.

Such posts will be deleted.

No useful post will be deleted.
If your post is even of slight use, it will not be deleted.

Check that thread for more info.

They will be deleted from the database.

As i said before, no posts containing questions or answers or discussions or anything useful like that will be deleted. They will neither be cut short nor merged. The useful posts will remain as they are.

Only the crappy posts will be deleted.

Crappy posts like : "Yes I agree with Mr.X", "Please use google", "Please change you nick " , posting the same question more than once and so on.

We have limited bandwith and web space...so we may not be able to afford a trash can.

What we wil do is inform members via pm that their post was deleted for so and so reason.

How much webspace space do you have, im curious,
and if you can tell how much is in use, unless its top secret.

Now that I have my web server running, im willing to share space if LP needs, perhaps for .tar.gz backups of phpbb or whatever, let me know.

LP's entire forum database size is 8.x MB at the moment. We are not facing a space crunch now...but if things go out of hand and flooding does not stop, then we may soon face the space crunch.

The entire LP forum webspace/bandwith is provided free by zahid sindhu, CEO of Inspedium Corp. (Pvt) Ltd. He is a very nice guy.
He's the one who's hosting all the facilities for us.

jargon, Thanks for the offer. We have ~700MB of disk space available to us (We're using 190MB) and the database for the whole site (wiki, forum, news, cache) is 11 MB.

The reason for flushing these useless post is that they are too much of a distraction. We build the http://www.linuxpakistan.net/ page by aggregating latest posts from the news and forum sites. Bogo-posts like these that don't contribute anything to the thread cause unneccesary distraction. I wish there were some kind of moderation system so that the hiding or deletion could be done in a democratic manner but that's not currently possible.

I request the moderators to inform the person that his post is being deleted before deleting it so that (hopefully) he'll avoid bad posts in the future.

Now, lets deal with the thanx messageS:

1.If a poster posted a question, a person helped him, and the posters problem got solved, then the poster can post a thanks for the person who helped him, in the post. This way others will be able to know that the poster solved his problem, and no extra posts will be made.

2.People other than the original question poster, if they want to thank the helper, they should preferably do it through private message.

3.For chit chat like messages like "I will call on so and so time" etc etc, private message should be used.

Faraz.Fazil,
The guidelines you laid out are very sensible. Kindly create a wiki page containing them when you get a chance. We'll link to that somewhere prominent on the forum (maybe in posting.php).
