free/libre open source software on MS Windows OS

Postby bunny » Sat Nov 29, 2003 11:37 pm

I have come to this BB as mahin posted to the forum of TheOpenCD earlier this year.

I have come here just to let you know TheOpenCD has been updated to version 1.2

It includes:
Office & Design, AbiWord, GIMP

Internet & Communication
Mozilla, FileZilla, TightVNC, WinHTTrack, PuTTY

Multimedia & Games
Audacity, CDex, Crack Attack!, Sokoban YASC,
Celestia, Really Slick Screensavers

Utilities & Other
7-Zip, SciTE, WinPT, NetTime

It has been a while coming. A VB auto-run pop menu for installers is stall used but is much slicker looking with more screenshots and lots of extras included such as tutorials.

One can grab the iso via:

Do let any commerical cdrom distributor know about it who may wish to do a run of them. You may want to build upon it to do your own version. Note the source code to software in now bundled up as separate tar file to what is in iso. The separate tar file includes the source code to the VB installer menu. But I guess it can be provided on it own if that makes things easier.

For those that use MS Windows OS allready this cdrom is a good steping stone to idea of whole free OS, especially as this cdrom includes avocacy texts about the value of freedom for the users of this software in that the software will be developed in their interests.

Anyway feel free to come by TheOpenCD forums if you have any questions or comments. Or to let us know how we can help.

And best wishes with your projects.
