LPR and CUPS speed problems

Postby lemon » Sun Aug 03, 2003 2:10 pm

LPR and Cups are way too slow and the print quality is garbage.

i have a Panasonic KXP-1180 9pin dot matrix. I dont know what kind of quality or speed do Bubble Jet printers get but.Dot matrix printer get 3x times slower and uglier is there a way to speed up CUPS.and while at it improve the print quality.

You're kidding, right? Tell that to the Debian box with CUPS we have at work that we use to allow ppl to print on our laser printer over IPP. I'm not sure if this is a dot-matrix specific problem or not. If you think it's a flaw in CUPS, do report the details to the CUPS crew. Make sure you're using the correct driver before reporting a problem. The Linux Printing website has tons of printers and printer drivers listed. The recent Redhat and even older Mandrake distros come with a snapshot of the LinuxPrinting.org drivers, so you might want to try those out for convenience.

I agree with fawad here.

The Common UNIX Printing System ("CUPS") is a cross-platform printing solution for all UNIX environments. It is based on the "Internet Printing Protocol" and provides complete printing services to most PostScript and raster printers. CUPS is provided under the GNU GPL

To me it sounds more like a physical problem with the dt matrix printer than a cups issue.

Did u try using the same printer on a windows machine?

If it does turn out to be a problem with cups, do report it to the cups crew.
