USB problem

Aslam o Alaikum

dear brothers i am facing problem when im connecting my USB device with linux machine.i have creat USB directory in /mnt but when i execute command # ls /mnt/usb, it dont shows the files on usb instead of this it shows the some directories like

gnome
boot.b
vmlinuz
but didnt show the files that i have been saved on USB drive.

plz provide help thanks.

Dear.

check what kernel version you are using

#uname -ar ( if are using 2.6 kernel) that have support of usb

and second thing what linux distribution you are using.

if you are using redhat so do this command after putting usb in cpu

#mount /dev/sda1/ /mnt
# cd /mnt
# ls -l

I am sure you will have usb, if not then check this command where your usb detect through

#fdisk -l

if you will continue face that problem kindly let me know about that.

thanks Noman bahi. my problem have been solved with your help. my USB device was being register in /dev/sdb1 while i was mounting it at location /dev/sda1. after the execution of mnt>#fdisk -l ....it solve my problem.
