LVM2 RAID 1TB Problem

Discussion regarding the installation and configuration of Linux distributions.

LVM2 RAID 1TB Problem

Postby LinuxNerd » Thu Mar 08, 2007 12:00 am

Dear All

I am running FC6 kernel 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6, with one 80GB IDE devices already configured at installation time as LVM2. My lvm package, drive-mapper, mkinitrd and all dependencies are up to date.

Using fdisk /dev/sda I created a full 500 GB partition with both either LVM type and also Linux type.

# pvcreate /dev/sda1
Can't open /dev/sda1 exclusively. Mounted filesystem?

This is what is returned!

Any ideas???

Thanks LInuxFreak!

I read that post and googled the web as well. Tried everything, but of no use. I don't know what the cause of it is. The post

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions ... p?t=527940

never gives the solution.
I guess after so many more tries, I must give it another one.

But any ideas what might be the problem??

Brainstorming .....

I'll be posting that once I get home. but meanwhile I figured out that as I already have an LVM2 configured on my 80GB IDE hard drive, device mapper that is all the

lsmod | grep dm

modules are loaded in the kernel.

Hence when I try to mount the 500 GB SATA drive it says it is already being used.

Alternatively I thought of removing the IDE LVM2 then unloading those modules from the kernel, then configure LVM and RAID for 500 GB SATA drives and finally add IDE to LVM again.

Just a thought I would perform

What do you people say???

Problem solved!

Booted FC 6 using CD 1 in rescue mode and performed the steps. Skipped the part where it asked to mount my existing partitions that is the "chroot /mnt/sysimage" part.
