Windows XP as Samba workgroup client

i did configuration of samba workgroup, added root as samba user but when tried to connect windows xp "permission denied" message is coming when viewing workgroup computers, while i tried with creating a local admin account in win xp as username "root"

Plz advise...?

dont use root as samba user, i dont think it will work try anyother user name it will work, if you failed agian, post your smb.conf file.

Share level security

I think your problem can be better solved by using share level security instead of user level security. This way you can password protect shares and use public shares accessible to every one. You can change this setting in the smb.conf configuration file. Also, if you are using Redhat 9, you will have a nice program

Start -> System Settings -> Server Settings -> Samba Server

Which will allow you to make changes easily.
