Xserver crash

iam using red hat linux 9 and my X server has crashed due toi some reason and iam not getting Xwindows, iam on runlevel3 and when i run redhat-config-xfree86 utility it also gives me error that x server cannot be started how can i restore my gui without reinstallation.

Was there just a crash , or something?
can you try providing any error messages,
what happens at runlevel 3 when you run 'startx' ,

you cannot run the redhat config tools unless you have an X server running.

Did you previously have gdm running it thats what is preventing you from launching X?

Do a 'ps -aux' and kill any process pertaining to X and/or GDM.

Have you tried rebooting?

the problem is solved, i have changed the fonts path in the conf file and it works
