commands for RAM and swap usage?

Postby hameedkhan » Mon May 10, 2004 9:31 pm

hi,
today i was wondering that how can i check my RAM usage and swap usage. so, i google for it tried online manuals. i have found few ways to check how much RAM (physical memory) is in use and how much swap (virtual memory) is in use.

cat /proc/meminfo
and the free command.

all i want is to confirm that are those only two ways we can find about RAM and swap usage. or there are any other traditional or well known commands. if you know about them please let me it will be very kind of you.

Thanks,
Hameed Khan.

top is great if you intend to work at shell, for gui, use kpm or gtop.
A: Yes
Q: Is top-posting bad?

top is the best...

while in top press Shift+M to sort proceses by memory usage and shift + P to sort processes by CPU usage. press h to see other shortcuts.
