Hi everyone,
Please help me, I'm a newbie. I've just installed Linux 8.0 on my office PC which is part of a total Windows network running Win 2000 Advanced server. Our internet is through a PTCL ISDN connection handled by an ISA server. Somehow I've managed to configure the proxies for the web browser and have activated the network connection. I just want to browse other PC's on the network and transfer files to them. Tell me how do I do network browsing (like in network neighbourhood in Windows) in the GNOME environment in windows? please don't tell me to do it through the terminal screen. Someone reply as soon as possible.

all the sample configuration tips are available in that default configuration file (smb.conf).
/etc/samba
then start and stop samba service from GNU interface or terminal
/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start (for starting samba services)
/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop (for stopig samba services)

I think this guy has asked how to browse in the GNOME enviornemnt like we do in the windows enviornemnt. Well 'if' has told u how to share the files in linux. To browse on the command line use the
smbclient -L //{IPaddress|hostname}
smbmount //{IPaddress|hostname/path} /{mount directory path}
In the Graphical enviornent use smb://{IPaddress|hostname} to browse through any. You can use any browser.

Hi Guys,
if you prefer the following is almost perfect replacement for network neighbourhood.It allows graphical browsing of computers on windows network. However you have to configure the SAMBA first before you can use it.

Linus is user friendly; it's just picky about its friends
