looking for software like PC Anywhere?

Postby barlas » Sat Jun 12, 2004 2:19 pm

First of all, I appologize if this question is in wrong forum, I was not able to think any better place for it....

PC Anywhere:
PC Anywhere allows client computer to connect host computer (by means of modem, LAN or paralled port) and allows the client to see and use the desktop of other computer. In other words it allows you to virtually use host computer.

What am I looking for?
Now, I am looking for any cross-plateform software which could allow me to do this same thing between linux and windows

I have already searched the net and forum for this but as I don't know what are these softwares exactly called, I was not able to find anything.
Thanks in advace for your reply

P.S My english is not looking good today.. so, ignore it :)

Remote Sharing Software

The best tool for your requirement is the free and open source VNC. A newer version TightVNC is even better and allows you to control a windows or linux machine from a linux box or vice versa.

Fast, efficient, GUI based, totally cross platform and free.

Thanks asaf

I am looking into it.. but it seems it connects us only when we are connected to net, what if we want it through direct access?

Waiting for answer and in the mean time exploring TightVNC

you can try this setup

if you have these setup properly on a linux box you can easliy dial into linux using windows and get a GUI.just use google for the program names like mgetty, pppd, most of the time they come with linux install though not activated but these are what you need to do direct connection with GUI.

If you have KDE 3.x, it comes with a very powerful desktop sharing tool (based on VNC). It basically lets you

  • Temporarily Share your current desktop with someone.
  • Create a new desktop under your account.
  • Send invitations out to people to connect to your machine

Highly recommended.
