vsftp server configuration vs secure ftp

Postby zoltronuga » Mon Jul 05, 2004 11:37 am

if you are using fedora, you will have to install vsftpd.
the configuration is quite easy. even I could do it.

however ftp protocol is not secure. this means passwords will wander in clear text and maybe read by others. you should consider using sftp, which is part of the ssh package

i'd recommend vsftpd as it is fast, light weight and the most secure of all. One reason being that all the commands implemented in the ftp shell are written by the programmer himself and doesnot uses the standard binaries provided by the linux shells. vsftpd is really superb and super good. Better use it. Configuring it is really easy. if you download vsftpd's source then you will find some pretty good howtos in it for more advanced ftp configurations.
