hiding processes

There is a techniche out there that hides all proc from being listed when a user uses the ps aux command but are shown when root uses it. i knw the sysctl for it in freeBSD but couldnt figure out for linux. but i found out such a patch but we had to re build kernel for it and it wasnt that good any one knw any good techniche for it please let me out

hashoo, try grsecurity. Like you said, it _is_ a kernel patch. I am not aware of any feature in the stock kernel that lets you do that.

Fawad its the same patch that i was talking about .. there is another one too which can be found at .. http://www.lids.org .. but the problem is that i fear rebuilding the kernel cuz i might screw it up.. well ill try it if there is no other option.. tell me one thing.. that my kernel is allready configured up working pretty well .. so when i rebuild my kernel i have to select all options frm again ( the ones that r being used) or only the things i need to change..

hashoo, no you don't have to select the options again. First of all, keep the orginal kernel in case you might need it later. From the source directory of the old install, copy the .config file to the new source directory. You will obviously have to specify the options for grsec but the old configs will get picked up by the config program.
