I have recently installed RH Linux 8.0. The problem is that sound system is not working. When I sign in and KDE starts it gives the following message in a dialog box:
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.
When I execute Soundcard Detection from System Settings It show the sound card model as Xwave QS3000A [FM801] which is correct.
any idea ??
thanx

i think linux kernel has no module for your sound card.
and i am sure as i have searched on google that ALSA has your required module , so you need to go at http://www.alsa-project.org/
read a bit then download alsa and compile it according to your sound card.
and if you are not understanding anything ask here.
