anti-aliased fonts in mozilla 1.4?

Postby TheElectron707 » Wed Jun 11, 2003 8:21 am

I am currently using RedHat9, and atlast it seems that linux has mature smooth fonts. the problem arrised when i downloaded and installed mozilla 1.4b. all the applications except mozilla 1.4b have smooth fonts. while mozilla 1.4b has rough edge fonts in its main browser window as well as in menu bar and icon text. if i run mozilla 1.2.1 (which came with redhat) its fonts are fine. i am being unable to find any setting to smooth out the fonts of new mozilla also?
any suggestions?

That's because the default Mozilla builds on mozilla.org are not linked against xft. You'll need to get a -xft build in order to get antialiasing. I think Mozilla only releases -xft binaries on Release builds (like 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 not 1.3a, 1.4a etc.). You have a choice if either using an old build or building 1.4 from source against xft.
