Ftp request through Squid on LAN

I am using Linux 7.2 on a multihomed machine,with two differernt network IP's ,Both private IP's, runing Squid 2 proxy ,clients having the same network IP's send their Internet request through the squid .
Their http request are fulfilled by the squid but the they cannot browse the ftp site hosted on the ohter side of the LAN.
ipchains are installed
ipforwarding is on

looking for solution ,Can any one help ?

i'll ask the obvious question here: what happens when they try to browse an ftp site on the other side of the lan?

stuff to investigate: squid's logs, tcpdump's output.
