Restricting users to send mail internally

Postby Learner » Mon Jan 05, 2009 10:41 am

AOA

Dear All !

I am running sendmail on FreeBSD, my e-mails are working properly. Now I want that some of my users can only mail locally / internally on that machine but that cant send mail on the internet (xxx@yahoo.com, xxx@hotmail.com etc).

How can I configure that please guide.
Thanks & Regards

Dear Learner,
Salam,

Depending upon how you are authenticating your users. Below file may help you out.

/etc/mail/access

Best Regards.

AOA

Dear LinuxFreaK !

I am not restricting users I just want them, that they can only e-mail in local mail server with each other but they cant mail to other servers.

(Eg. abcd.com is a mail server the user A & B can send mail to user C but with in that server not on the net. But User C can send mail on any e-mail address)
Thanks & Regards

you cant stop that as they can send email anywhere using any other smtp server.

i typed "sendmail restrict mail" into google and the very first link had a solution to your problem.

Isn't it amazing how so many people can type "linuxpakistan.net" into their browsers but not "google.com"?

Dear Lambda!

If i use any 3rd party relaying server for sending emails anywhere using any email address! How he will be able to stop those emails as i am not involving his server for sending emails but receiving only!

that wasn't his stated requirement. smtp has no builtin mechanism for authorization. two things he can try are domainkeys and spf, but they depend on the receiving mail server checking for them.
