it all depends in what language you want to do programming. because there are many choices in linux. C, C++, Java, Python, Perl, Tcl, etc etc. For more help read the following posts... ... php?t=1869 ... php?t=1297 ... php?t=1599

Look buddy, I think if you want to take a start on linux developement, First of all i recommend you to work on C++ and do not use an IDE in the begining, just write your code on text editor and sompile it through g++ or gcc, this will clear more of your concepts. Second thing, how to start, if you have a little programming experience on windows, just pick a source code of your own, and run it on linux, it probabbly won't run if you have used some non-linux compatible functions, like from MFC or API's of windows. Replace them and run, Infact first you port some of your programs from windows to linux, and for help download a free book, "Advance Linux Programming", Its even good for beginers, or consult on this forum or
Wish you best of luck.
