Hi, Usman
to learn about configuration and setting up your linux box you have to read some howtos or guides which are available with some distributions and there latest versions are available @ The Linux Documentation Project. I dont know about in what form intel is providing the driver for their modem but their should be a README or howto install on their site from where you are donwloading driver.
Thanks,

well mr usman it seems like that the VGA card your using is a non linux compatibe but still then check it out on internet the known compatible linux hardware ...as far as the modem problem is concerned if your using the win modem it would simply not work with any of the distro or in very rare case it works if you have the appropiate driver available for the kernel other wise must have to a lin modem

You don't really have a Non-Linux compatablile graphics card, X works with almost any card, you just have one of those cards that are not automatically picked up, so what, no big deal, install Linux in text mode, and then configure your XF86Config file,

You have to be willing to learn Linux, otherwise frankly if you could care less then just don't bother.

Next time if you are unsure about a particular hardware, whether it works or not, just try a Google: "<Device Name> Linux"

"SIS 300/305 Linux"

Be careful you guys understand what a Linmodem. It's simply a successful "hack" I guess (using the term lightly) to get a Winmodem working under Linux. The modems that everyone has problems with in Pakistan are these Winmodems, modems that are not full chipset, but rely on software to really work, and obviously this makes it cheaper and causes trouble for Linux users since most manufacturers dont provide Linux drivers of their products.

If you want to steer clear of this, understand that you will probably pay more, but it doesn't mean that all pci modems are winmodems, you can get a pci (or older isa) based modems that work just fine, of which the drivers that come with the Linux kernel are sufficient.

Then of course, you CAN get a winmodem and configure it properly with the working drivers (http://www.linmodems.org/)

Hello Usman,

Dont worry about your modem either. It works fine with linux. I have been using it for past 2.5 years. Please read the following posts, you will find a lot of information about modems.
