YAHOO!.....A full driver for Coneexent HSF Modem in 2.6.x

Post by mir_sheely »

Yes this post will describe how to use ur Connexent Modem in full mode in kernel 2.6.x
may be U people already got it but I got it just yesturday.
It is simple, just download the driver from
http://404.bizhat.com/temp/Modem.zip
Inside it U will find a keygenerator and a driver source and a guide for installing driver.
In shorcuts I am telling U.
First untar the source and in the directory run "make install"
after when it finishes, run "hsfconfig"
It will ask U simple questions about country, kernel source directory, mail address and will assign U a registration code, and prompt U for entering ur liscence key. Now minimize it and open another terminal and reach at the directory where file generator.pl is located and type
chmod 755 generator.pl
and then type
./generator.pl <License owner> <Registration ID>

(License owner= enter ur mail address which U entered to driver
Registration ID= Enter registration code which hsfconfig has assigned U)

Now immediately it will give U a key, just copy that key and paste it in previous minimized terminal prompt. hsfconfig will show ur states and now enjoy the freedom, and net at 56K in kernel 2.6.x
Thanks, I think it will work for U, if it doesn't then read the MODEM section of the article present inside the directory.

Well no matter, we should share every thing which we know, and for this problem, it is common every where.

okay,

i have the modem Installed.. and when after installation , i restarted and then tried to connect to Brain Net .. the call automatically disconnected,

i asked the Brain Net , and they told me that they do not allowLinux logins , i would have to use a winbdows based OS.
fair enough ..

i had other things to do as well,

so when i tried to log in to WOL , as well as Brain , the call automatically resetted,

e.g, ATDT13131313ATZ

i dont know where the hell did that ATZ at the end come from ?
and the modem woudl start redialling ..

please can any body guide me ? same happened with Brain Login ..

earlier the login request was succesful, but now the connection keeps resetting .. , and the successful login request was made unsuccessful by Brain Net , saying i HAD to use WINDOWS to use their ISP ..

so please tell me what to do ?

BRAIN NET does work great with LINUX in Quetta and perhaps for my thinking it is the best Linux Friendly ISP in Quetta, because After connecting net, when their server gives response, The KPPP Log shows
"WELCOME TO BRAINNET ISP"
And their complete address, which other ISP such as BURAAK, PAKNET, ULTRANET or GEONET don't do.
Which dialer U are using? Is it KPPP, if KPPP then when U query modem what does it show U?
Try once again reinstalling KPPP and Modem Driver because I think the KPPP setting is not properply configure, and when U reinstall it it will ibe installed by it's default configuration which works excellent.

Donot beleive on what the isp support ppl tell.

It simply seems to be a problem with your kppp settings.
PLay around and change with a few settings in the KPPP setup tab to see if that makes a difference.Esp try changing flow control and other settings.

If you still face the problem..feel free to post.

Thanx Faraz.Fazil..

but i think i still haventfound the right way ,

as i aksed Mir_sheely , and he told me how to check if nameserver is installed,

the latest installation and configuration of the modem drivers as well as Fedora core 2 was very careful by me, and i think there was no problem duringthe installation except the error that said " unable to allign partitions properly , you can ignore but some bootloaders might not work " etc. etc.

so i dont know really whats the rpoblem , i changed the KPPP settings with the ISP , but the call would be terminated automatically.. how can they know about my OS ?

and how can they disconnect me automatically ?
or rather , inbterrupt my call mid way , and then allow for " the right OS " on the customer`s PC?

i will again try for that ,

and i believe this is the only way to learn LINUX .. try try try again ..

Thanx for the encouragement ..

Im using fedora core 3. i got the ver 7 of linuxant hsf driver installed though tar.gz pakage. tried http://m.1asphost.com/amateen/keygen.bin and http://www.geocities.com/booboohoot/generator.pl both generated the same key which didnt work for me.

Im currently waiting for mir sheely to send me the driver and genkey in that Modem.zip. Hope it works. If it doesnt seems like i'll have to do some hex editing as it is mentioned in following urls:
http://www.linuxhelp.it/modules.php?op= ... 8&start=60
