Meraj, IMHO any ATAPI CD Writer will work. I've had 3 and they all work nicely. CD Writers use the SCSI emulation driver under linux so they all look the same to the OS. Redhat and Mandrake automatically use the scsi emulation driver for such drives.

Agree! Though Samsung advised not to use their CDRW under linux. SW-248FRNS

It seems that most of the models available inPakistan do not work out of box or not work at all under Linux. What we need is to identify specific models reported to be working under Linux and those which are available in Pakistan.

With little bit awareness the dealers would be persuaded to import those models which support Linux. What we need is to identify models so people can ask for them.

We need to do same for modems, nothing sophisticated just model nuber and Distro under which it worked.

Assalamualaikum,

Yes. I agree. So I would request any member of PLUC to let us know/help to compile a list of Linux friendly hardware available in Pakistan.

This is nice idea :) My only qualification is that we focus on Hardware which is sold in Pakistan and identify the vendor/main dealer so that others may be ecnouraged in stocking those which support Linux.
