Thread Locking?

Post by fawad »

Now that our forum has gotten a little mature, I think it's time we bring a little order to it. I propose that we recruit forum moderators to lock a discussion thread when it seems that a topic has ended (i.e. the users' question has been answered). The reason for proposing that is that some threads get too long and seem to discuss everything under the sun. That's counterproductive for someone who's browsing for a thread on a topic.

Comments and suggestions on the topic are welcome.

thats a very good idea.and it shoud be done

when we are going outside the topic or outside the linux.

when a thread is double posted.

when we people are getting aggressive or getting personal.

and offcourse you will write comments only in some conditions like these.
so i voted for third one.

Yes i agree with newbie but also i would like to add that some of the threads which are not replied or are outdated (i mean that they are of no use after a specific period of time) may also be deleted...

if you are talking about a thread which is completely answered then it is not good to delete it because often different people ask the same question again and again. and in such case anybody can just refer to that replied thread.
some DECENT threads which got no answer for a very long time is a insult of our forum. but it will be more insult of the forum to delete the thread.
but foolish threads must be deleted.

I agree with farhan in those case.... but thread which are posts again and again against under same subject... (may be text is similar)... so we need to manage and change our attitude to post a new post everytime... forexample when we need some kind of help regarding SAMBA... if member need configuration related help... first he must see ... is any samba related subject in CONFIGURATION head... if there is... he should reply that thread and post his question under that thread... from doing this we can arrange our forum... and get help very very easy...
if u find anything which shows my lack of knowledge,
please guide me... thx

Instead of Creating new thread every one should try to first look for already created Thread on the topic ,
while replying reply only in that section ....
all this will help every one

Locked topics should be(and are, at many forums):

Discussions going out of hand.
Announcements from the Adm. etc that needs no commenting.
Irrelevant questions.

Also,

*Past topics should not be locked, nor deleted. When this Forums grows big, the same questions are gonna be asked again and again, and Past threads are gonna be searched for the answers.

*Post a sticky topic at the top of every discussion forum, with directions to avoid posting to old topics.Check the date of the post before a reply is posted.

*Locked topics = :-/
