Software/Application tools forum

Post by Kdaemon »

It's just a suggestion to LP Administrator(s) about a new forum that lists different new and old s/w & application tools (OSS) i.e. Firewall & Development Tools, New OS in town etc...

If any one thinks it's good move, please further suggest!

Thanks!

I think he is not talking about linux distros, which are available at lp office.

Hi
Yeah its a great idea but I also think that it will be difficult for Admins to mantain it. Moreover, it you install Distros like Debian or Gentoo, you dont have to search web for any software because Debains apt or Gentoo's portage will do everything (searching and installation) for you.
Thanks.

- usamahashimi: you are right, but what if you are using nagios and tell other ppl about it

as subject

"NAGIOS, the network abc...."
CACTI : " The network Mgmt Application"
ETHEREAL: "The network sniffer"
PHPBB : "An open source Discussion forum (that lp is using too)"
IPTRAF : "Console based network activity monitor"

hope you ppl have much clear picture now!
with the passage of time, this proposed forum will have archived much s/w application information

- Nothing comes without work. so there have to be some admin thing too.

if you say there is a problem then please suggest some alternate solution or some other way to convey the meaning for implementation.

Kdaemon,
I'd recommend that you take a look at the Wiki. That will probably be the best place to organize such information. Forums should be used for information that gets rotated out over time. Wiki lets you organize stuff much more nicely.
