i am a new bie and just want to create network of linux and windows
i have windows 2003 server and winxp dual boot on one system and has windows 2000 and redhat 8 on second system ican do configuration of windows like tcp/ip etc but i dont how to set these things in linux guide me to create simple network
and try to create room on irc that will be easy for us

pls explain how many pc will be in ur network... for wt u will primerily use it ... for internet sharing or file sharing..wt ever..

Assalam o Alaikum
One thing , There is this ip series which you are following.
If you are using redhat ,login as root and then type setup and press enter , goto network setting and punch in your ip address in there.
quit the setup application , restart the network by giving command
/etc/rc.d/init.d/./network restart
now , try pinging the other ip / windows 2003 / xp box .. it should ping , if you punched the correct ip in.
2nd is file sharing , goto /etc/smb , open smb.conf in your favourite editior and configure it, try reading SAMBA-HOWTO for it Please.
