URDU fonts for linux?

Hello,

I am searching for URDU fonts for linux, is there any free/open source URDU fonts available for linux, so that i can use them in fedora core to tranlate some applications to URDU?

install utf-8 format fonts urdu naksh will b visible for you most of the urdu sites are writen in utf-8

problem with these available fonts are they have a strange liencense, where to use these fonts in Linux's any Distro, they must be released with as relax as GPL.

Agree with Nayyer.

Always use UTF-8 encoding it will work on all Right to Left / Arabic Script Based Languages there is no issue for Left To Right / other scripts.

Use fonts from Pak Type and Arabeyes. Among these two you can be assured of having listing of every thing under GPL which you will find from other sources [ KACST, Sharif, ] also. There are few fonts [ mostly for Quran ] which are not listed any where yet but you have similar available between the two listed sources.

Avoid using fonts encumbered with weird / restrictive licensing.

Contrary to what some zealots will tell you on this forum, the "Nafees Web Naskh" fonts from CRULP are completely free and can be distributed without restrictions and also bundled with other GPL stuff. Moreover these are the best Urdu fonts that can be used on the web.
