Synopsis:

The presentation will focus on IT Security trends seen today as well as what to expect within the next few years. We will start with a look back at Internet security in the 90's: the threats, the hackers, their goals and motivations and the effect on an economical scale. Next we will look at how all this has evolved in the current Internet security situation and economical repercussions and how we can counter the threat with current technology. Finally we will have a look at future predications and trends in this area as well as possible solutions to the problem.

Presenter’s Profile:

Currently exercising the position of Technology Solutions Expert at IBM Internet Security Systems, Tim De Boeck started his career in the area of information security in 1999, after having obtained his graduate degree in Computer Science at the Belgian University of Science and Art.

His first major project consisted of successfully transitioning the Belgian Railways’ information infrastructure towards Y2K compliance, after which he joined the Information Security workgroup of Econocom, a European systems integrator. Fluent in both English and French, his skills were well perceived in the market and two years later he joined NOXS, a European distributor of IT security products. This change gave him the opportunity to broaden his security product knowledge over the next 4 years, making him an expert in leading security technology like Check Point and Netscreen firewalls, Blue Coat security gateways, content scanning solutions from Trend Micro and Websense as well as many other security solutions, including IBM Internet Security Systems’ product portfolio.

It is with IBM Internet Security Systems that Tim De Boeck currently fulfills the role of Technology Solutions Expert for the EMEA region, providing assistance and consultancy to customers and partners pertaining the IBM Internet Security Systems product and services portfolio in specific and Internet and network security in general.
