Need Help from ABC to XYZ of LINUX

SALAMz to all

im an old member of this forum but going to make 1st topic here.
After a long time i decided to move from windows to Linux and for this im greatfull to www.linuxpakistan.net its all bec of this forum.


now im gonna install RedHat 7.3 here at home and will need help of the experts from here and iam gonna start from ABC of Linux so please don't mind if i asked any stupid question in here.i will post 1st problem today night.

hope so ppl here will help me .....

7.3 is very old

u can start with http://ubuntu.com its easy linux

DO NOT use ubuntu, unless you are using it for desktop usage.
if are really interested to learn core linux and want to understand its whole structure, then use slackware.

there is nothing about ubuntu that prevents you from learning how to use "core linux" (whatever that is). sure, it sets stuff up for you nicely, but that doesn't mean ubuntu "hides" anything from you. you can still fiddle with the config files the same way.

weren't you posting about suse just a few months ago, asking which distribution newbies should use?

slackware is good for learning but it is for those who already know how to use Linux little bit


and he is asking about ABC

think if you are a newbie on linux ?
will you be able to fdisk on slackware ?

thanx to all members who guide me to choose the right thing.im downloading RED HAT Linux9 now and 50% is completed after installation i will let u know the problem if any.

Red hat 9 is very old too, try some new distro.

im in Kuwait and here, its very hard to any OS cd soo i have to download it so tell me the final one which i has to download, plz with the URL

Is FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE is fine to use, i will get some help abt FREEBSD here or not?

3 days back i shifted on it and not found any bug i was using 6.0 which was not getting the packages using pkg_add -r
but its fine for me
