Restrict Download Bandwidth

Hi All

I want to restrict download bandwidth per user or ip through squid or iptables. I want user can not get download speed more than 6k. I use 512K bandwidth. Anybody know and help me about it.

Dear Asif,

The link you mentioned is not reliable, lambda also said in previous posts that ,that links is not reliable because we dont know the source code, whats going on inside that and we can not control thing properly i also tested that thing, that is meaning less.

Traffic Shaping in FreeBSD is hell easy, use ipfw with dummynet, you can get everything.
in linux i found traffic shapping is tough.

Use squid delaypools for restricting bandwidth for only downloading.It works very well.If u need any further help see link below for squid configuration.

use cbqinit scripts and tcp traffic varriables it is a little hard to do but its works very good

Delay Pools

If you want to say within squid then delay pools are a good option but not best.. I will suggest MikroTik for bandwidth shaping..
