The good news is that you too can update your Redhat 9 system to severn. Simply install apt from fedora, run

apt-get update;apt-get upgrade

to come up to date with the latest stable packages. Change /etc/apt/sources.list to point to version 9.0.93 instead of 9 and run

apt-get update;apt-get update;apt-get dist-upgrade

For the Windows (r) charm, reboot the machine. Presto, you're sitting in a Severn box.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this yet. Redhat desktop is now Fedora Code. Fedora is a group of people from around the world that create very high quality packages for Redhat and make them available over apt, yum, etc. Redhat is basically going for a Debian like model for the product that used to be called Redhat Linux. The packages will be maintained by community members, with the Fedora packaging guidelinkes and the blessing of the Redhat development team.

In my opinion (contrary to that of a LOT of Linux users) is that Redhat has made a great decision by doing this. Casual users like us will have the option of keeping up to date with the latest software releases. The packages will be maintained by non-Redhat maintainers for the most part. The Fedora system will serve as a core for building Redhat Enterprise Linux. This will kinda be the equivalent to the relation between Mozilla and Netscape Communicator.

Oh yeah, the new up2date will support apt and yum sources and the fedora mirrors will support apt
