ipfire - the free firewall for your home or SOHO

Post by phoenix »

IPFire is new-developed firewall build with the latest releases of linux 2.6 and tools. You are able to install a lot of addons and you will see a firewall can become a home server.

They are working on an English wiki at the moment. Their IRC channel is #ipfire
on FreeNode. People on the channel are very friendly and helpful.

Mr. Tariq: when can we expect to have its CD available on LP? :)

Hi Guys,

Sorry for being inactive in forum for last few weeks, I was away for E-Secure LPT (Licensed Penetration Tester) Certification, by the way any one have an idea about it?

Coming to the topic otherwise admin would mind ;) (with respect)

IpFire is a quite handy distribution, BUT there are lot others that do the job quite good, like ASTARO? (not free anymore), Devil Linux, Linux ROM, floppyfw, smoothwall etc.

You can make any of your linux box to act as a firewall BUT the question is having a firewall on your network parameter makes you SECURE? and Who will keep those FIREWALL Secure? (with OS and applications vulnerabilities)

Although this forum is for Linux, BUT we can use it to give our viewers a real idea about Information Security(if allowed) unfortunately I haven't find any Pakistani Forum that discuss about security

Security simply isn't Putting a FIREWALL and do some fancy stuffs isn't it?

So what do you say (admin), should we use this forum to discuss about security other then Linux?

Like Any one can Ask questions about the Keepings its Desktop, Network, Office Network, Enterprises Network, Infrastructure, DataCenter, etc. Secure. (if allowed by admins) whom I respect the most.

Thanks

Hello everybody,

today we will release Core Update Number 4 which contains some new feature

added ability to log all dropped packets when using outgoing firewall mode 1
added ability to change the iptables logging behaviour of the firewall, maybee this
page will get extra options in the future (esp. don´t log MS Ports on red ) ->
http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en ... l_Optionen
fixed pakfire cgi -> will now reload after upgrade
removed firewall logs from kernel logview -> needed to change the log prefix for
iptables
fixed the detailed firewall log graph pages, sometimes the local interface was missing

The update is available via pakfire, some other packages have been updated during
this week
You can find open bugs via http://bugtracker.ipfire.org
You need to reboot your fire, or restart the firewall skript, after this the new log
prefixes will be active, when you change the firewall log options or disable some,
there will also be an advice to reboot, maybee we will change this in a later core
release.
