FC7 and canon iR C3170 network printer

Post by zillah »

At work i have got my laptop with FC7. I tried to install our work's printer (on 192.168.2.50) , here what I did :

Through GUI, System-->Administration-->Printing--> New Printer ,,,,but i do not what to choost to assign TCP/IP port to the FC7 PC.

What option should I choose :

Windows Printer via SAMBA
AppSocket/HP JetDirect
Internet Printing Protocol
LPD/LPR Host or Printer
Other

Any help how to setup the printer.

Do i need to use command line or still I can do through GUI

I used to install other network printer on FC4, FC5

If I could not find the proper driver for our canot printer iR C3170.

Do I need to install one ? or the generic linux one does the job.

if the printer is not shared then how can you use that???? it must be shared if you want to access that from some other computer in network.

It is a networking printer , I do not need to access the printer via other PCs.

Mr. Zillah

why dont you open up http://localhost:637
and add this printer here and try to print test page.
as it is network printer you only have to mention socket address.
generic linux driver will do the job.

there is also some differences between the previous CUPS 1.x and the Latest CUPS 2.x shipped with FC7 please look at differences.

i am sure this printer will be installed on RHEL, FC1234, etc.

and why dont you accept
U could use the IR 3100C driver
at some other forum.?????

What socket address should I use , the default one I believe is 9100

and why dont you accept
I tried any suggestion that might help in this forum and other forums.

Do not accept !!!! I do not think I had refused that. This what I said in other forum that you have been pointing to it :
I tried hp jetdirect driver, but I could not find IR 3100C driver under that option.

according to my knowledge socket address is always an ip address bundled with port. like 192.168.0.24:9100 or else ip with port

there are also the samles on the page.

ok you have accepted, than why dont you post the results of other drivers.
