Squid 3.0

Post by azfar »

I am currently using squid 2.6 stable 16 and I just saw it that 3.0 stable is released as well.

I want to know should I move to 3.0 or not. What the major differences in 3.0 from 2.6?

What are the steps for transparent proxy?
Thanks.

have you tried looking at squid's web site for a list of changes or new features in 3.0? would you like us to do that for you?
Watch out for the Manners Taliban!
Isn't it amazing how so many people can type "linuxpakistan.net" into their browsers but not "google.com"?

I saw it and found that some features are missing from it as compare to 2.6. So I need to know wht other thaughts.

Initialy I updated my 2.6 stable 16 installation to stable 18.

Any comments on 3.0 please specialy caching improvements and Disk I/O performance.

squid 3.0

Post by khurram48 »

Assalam o allikum!

you can safely move to squid 3.0 but there are some parametere that are changed in 3.0 see their list on squid site
especially the transparent options from squid 2.6

here are the steps for u to go to transparent
in previous version like 2.x
u have to set like --->
httpd_accel_host virtual
httpd_accel_port 80
httpd_accel_with_proxy on
httpd_accel_uses_host_header on
acl lan src 192.168.1.1 192.168.2.0/24
http_access allow localhost
http_access allow lan

but now in squid 3.0
u have to easily set like this

http_port 3128
# http_port 172.16.1.53:3300
http_port 172.x.x.x:3300 accel defaultsite=universe
http_port 3128 transparent

this is acceleration n transparent mode parameters
for details check their site
