Bro;
You are wandering about [farhan@rootfarhan]$

in the above line

farhan is the username

rootfarhan is your machine name

$ sign means u r logged as a normal user( usually a user with limited rights)

and the second problem:

#startx does't start graphics

paste the full log report to the forum. Without a complete log report of startx solving your prob would be no more than wrestling with a pig in the mud.
and remember always paste full name of your distro*, linux8 makes no sense.
"...Unix, MS-DOS, and Windows NT (also known as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)."

Assalam-o-Alaikum Farhan Ansari,
Perhaps you are talking about Graphical Desktop Environment. The installation of graphical desktop environment will depend on the distribution of Linux you are using. I assume that you are using Red Hat Linux 8 or Fedora 8 because these are the most comAmon distributions being used in Pakistan at this time. If that is the case then you will see options for GNOME and KDE during the installation process. These are the graphical desktop environment you need to install. After installing them, You will see a graphical login screen. Locate the "Session" button and select one of the installed desktop environments to see how each of them looks and works.

Watch out for the Manners Taliban!
Isn't it amazing how so many people can type "linuxpakistan.net" into their browsers but not "google.com"?

Hello :),

Can you please install the graphical rpm package again, may this be the issue OR else can you please test this with any other graphical card, if other graphical card works then graphical card support is the issue . 8)
