Wine and Msn?

I heard here on this forum and also on some international forums, people talking about using windows software via wine in Linux. So if lets say that after 15th all negotiations of administration of Gaim or Amsn fails with Microsoft guys, we can still use windows version of msn through wine in Linux..is that right? can we do this?

OT: If gaim doesn't get MSN support after the 15th, tough. I'll just use some other IM network (and the usual IRC). I use gaim on both Linux and windows (haven't use MSN proper since the Windows version of gaim came out).

o yeah the irc, i am having a little problem in that too. first of all when i launch this irc client from mozilla, it doesnt connects with dalnet (the usual server that i use to connect to irc network). after manually giving it /server servername.dal.net it connects, but i dont understand the working there, no screen names are visible in left coloumn like window, the list is there but having some un readable characters. is there any other way of using irc, other than mozilla irc client? like some mirc clone for linux or something like that?

There are many good irc clients available for linux.Some of them are:

1.)X Chat (recommended)
2) XIRC (recommended)
3) Irssi.
4) BitchX.
5) Ksirc.
6) Epic.
7) Sirc.

PJIRC.
9.)KVIRC

sir ji i tried the irc clients recommended by you, but there seems to be some installation problem. For example i tried installing Ksirc and Kvirc, during /.configure command they both say some thing llike X server not found or something like that. Then i switched on to X-chat which was recommended by you and in that it says..Glib not found or Glib is configured incorrectly. after this i searched for Glib on rpmfind.net and it told me to download it from www.gtk.org . on www.gtk.org it isnt working. it doenst downloads any thing. it just loads a blank page and then nothing.

I hope u understand the problem and u`l guide me to some good way again

Download and install this rpm for XCHAT:

If you get any dependency error, just goto http://rpm.pbone.net or www.rpmfind.net search, download and install the dependency rpms and try it out.

Ok sir ji, x-chat is up and running. Now i dont know where is the actual binary file located of it. i mean right now if i want to run it, i have to write xchat in terminal to run it. i want to put an icon on my desktop to run the command to run xchat. can u tell me where did it install it?

No problemo dude.

Do this to create a desktop icon/launcher for xchat.

Right click on empty space on the desktop.
Click on create new launcher from the menu
In the name field, type any good name like xchat irc
Leave generic name and comment
In the command field type xchat
In type, select application.

Click ok...a desktop icon for xchat will be created.
