can you boot into single-user mode and fsck the filesystem? or boot off a cd and fsck/mount the filesystem?

Isn't it amazing how so many people can type "linuxpakistan.net" into their browsers but not "google.com"?

read the error carefully. the process that's failing near the end is 'rm'. if the problem is with the kernel, it shouldn't get this far - before any rm process can execute, the system has to run init, a few sh processes, maybe mount and fsck as well. the problem can be with the filesystem - maybe with initrd.

same problem in single user mode so I cant run fsck from there. I will try the rescue mode.
btw i didnt recompiled the kernel, its just happened after a power failure.
