squid source compiling error

Asslamu Alaikum

dear friends i get the following error while configuring squid from source code.

[root@localhost squid-2.5.STABLE12]# ./configure --enable-arp-acl --disable-ident-lookups && echo "Alhamdu Lillah"
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for mawk... no
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH


kindly guide me how to check this problem.

you need to install a c compiler. probably something like "yum install gcc" or "apt-get install build-essential" should do the trick.

&& echo "Alhamdu Lillah"
do you always add this to your configure statements?
